Caminalcules are attention-getting, imaginary organisms created by the late Joseph Camin. The unique organisms, with their strange anatomy, have stimulated a series of clever activities related to classification and phylogenetic relationships. First, students develop a defensible classification scheme for “living” caminalcules. During this preliminary process they will come to realize that classification is not an absolute science, and disagreements can occur. Next students examine “fossil” caminalcules and create a phylogenetic tree based on their own defensible pattern of classification. These imaginary organisms will put fun into your teaching of classification while providing a great deal of thinking in the process.
Super Value Kit is complete for 30 students working in pairs. All materials are reusable.
